its an odd thing to latch onto but i think what i loved most about this was a certain formality or even dignity in all of the camerawork and movements of the actors . there's one incredible scene where the central couple is sitting together in bed talking, while the camera slowly pans between closeups of their faces as each speaks . the panning is so slow that there will be perhaps several seconds where neither ones face is really…
rich and dazzling . from what ive seen this is the most complex of gottheim’s films w iterative repetition . it feels worthwhile to sketch out a reconstruction of its form , tho obviously limited by my memory :
