Glen or Glenda

1953

★★½ Watched

For a film made in the 1950s, it is surprisingly sympathetic to intersex and trans people. The film even shows Anne happy as a woman after transitioning.

But because it is a film made in the 1950s, it has very outdated ideas on sexuality. The doctor insists Glen's "condition" can be cured, and uses medical that have fallen out of favor.

And because it is a film directed by Ed Wood, it is not great. It is clear that…

This is both heartbreaking and terrifying in a metaphorical sense. Just hiding your true self out of fear and slowly die helplessly while nobody around cares.

I do love the soundtrack and the not-at-all subtle lighting with the trans colors throughout.

This was just plain awful.

At least with Plan 9 From Outer Space, it had a beginning, middle and end, and at least one person cared about making the film.

With this one, nothing was done right. The narration was barebones, the acting was bad, and the editing for the car chase was incoherent.

The only good thing is the rabbit at the very end, and that was completely unplanned.

The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made

2004

★½ 1

At best, this list provides some interesting films to see for one's self (like the Mesa of Lost Women and JD's Revenge).

At worst, the list barely provides any critical reasons as to why these 50 films are actually terrible.

And some of the films selected seem odd to be on the list (Ishtar stands out the most) and there are some notable exclusions (Troll 2 or any film made after 1990).

Not to mention, there is a weird joke (?) about the director of Robot Monster surviving his suicide attempt.

Kind of ironic that a video about the worst films is itself terrible.
