There are points where this movie pulls stuff out of its ass that shouldn't work as a resolution to the plot, but it's SO FUN to watch you dont even care. Brilliant.

I don't understand how people defend this

Surprisingly not shit. The part where the clone pikachu keeps hitting Pikachu and he just takes it? Brutal. It's cheesy, sure, but there's something about it that makes it really enjoyable (and the climax really raw).
