A nice little family melodrama... quietly reveals its traumas. I found this one to be unusually affecting. Wonderful performance from a young Okada Mariko.

This is an odd one… or I suppose it’s not all that odd if you go into it expecting a 100 minute music video-cum-weird sort of hybrid documentary/infomercial for Japanese tourism in Hawaii. I was NOT expecting that, although there’s something about the tone of Rainbow Over the Pacific that hits about right for those of us whose earliest exposure to Hawaiian history and mythology was via The Brady Bunch.
