I am a sucker for 1960s New York aesthetic and this film utilises that aspect so well that Joker misses to replicate, it’s never there as just a background it coexist with the story, also that jazzy soundtrack… CHEFS KISS. Robert De Niro really sells this performance as an anti hero because while he isn’t a great guy he still has a heart and soul, so I don’t think calling him a “villain” describes him well. It’s not easy to…

Barry Lyndon

★★★★★ Liked Watched

You hear a lot of people say Barry Lyndon looks like a painting due to its visually stunning cinematography but many people overlook how the film is like time travelling to the 1700s. The costume design, the set design, the different phrases and idioms they use made it more accurate than any film that is based on a true story that I’ve seen. This has been an incredible experience and I can confidently say is the best trilogy of all time.

Fuck man, Kobayashi knows how to do a conclusion.
This tragic saga ends with a film an extension of what the trilogy’s themes of desperation, cruelty and trying to find a speck of hope. In this film it explores the moral corruption of power and how war impacts others. What I love about this film is that it touches on subjects that…

Ok enough doubting, Kobayashi is better than Kurosawa. While this film is not as ambitious or as good as the first one, it’s still an amazing film about desperation and the cruel human nature, again, it’s like the first film but to an extreme with how challenging and upsetting this film is.

It’s a descent into madness as we see Kaji lose control over his emotions and start to doubt human nature. It’s a pessimistic film but here an there…

I’m Back! Sorry for the lack of reviews I was just really busy with school but now I’m on break I’m gonna try and watch more films and what better way to bring myself back to the world of film is by watching a film I have on Criterion.

The Sword Of Doom is similar to Harakiri in a way as they criticise the samurai culture in some way. In Harakiri is about the traditions and politics and here it’s…

A Minecraft Movie

What have movie theatres become…. A place where you can throw your popcorn, cheer as loud as possible saying stupid jokes that aren’t funny above the age of 10. Movie theatres are all about trying to immerse yourself in the film. And whether or not the shit you watch is good or bad you still need to be invested.

I don’t want to sound like a “pretentious movie snob” but something about it just felt really dystopian in a sense.…
