Oh god, this is quite actively bad. Incredibly lazy screenplay and somehow Jarmusch doesn't make much out of it visually. I think those first three films are defined by how characters interact with their surroundings by trudging through them on foot and the taxi conceit sort of fucks up his whole ethos.

Particularly galling that it's more or less a downward spiral. LA isn't as funny as it thinks it is, New York is decent but should be the weak link in a far better film, Paris never made it past first draft, Rome is insufferable and Helsinki is just a damp squib of an end.

Almost masterpiece-tier but let down by it's final segment.

Jarmusch is so in tune with the contradiction that America is truly the most culturally rich place in the world and also a fucking shithole. I can't think of a filmmaker who mines this tension better. While I'm yet to see a film of his completely cohere into something great, I could watch him film slightly crappy urban landscapes all day.

After almost killing the franchise every time the Craig era tried to become serialised its super impressive that Fukinaga and co doubled down on the mess that was Spectre to round out a 15 year story. After the cowardice of Rise of Skywalker and a THIRD Halloween reboot it just made me be much more willing to give the whole thing a shot.
