From the opening scene of a simply-decorated title cake and the first few notes of melancholic, wistful score reminiscent of downbeat French carnival music, I was enthralled. I think we get to see a glimpse of the director Christiane Cegavske here (and at the end) too, in a papier-mΓ’chΓ© mask, placid smile pasted on, styled to complement the opening sequence of her creation perfectly.
