“Hi!….No, I really mean that. Hi :)”
Horror is my fave but I also love a good movie cry and a banging soundtrack.
One of my favorite Denis Villeneuve films. Though he’s proven to be a master of sci-fi, it’s actually his more grounded films like this (also Prisoners) that seem to have the biggest effect on me. A harrowing mystery with some heartbreaking performances. Villeneuve shots the hell out of this (no surprise), so many images still lingering. A must watch for Villeneuve fans, especially if you’re only familiar with his later filmography.
They really lean into the dark serial killer stuff which I loved. A couple of truly horrifying sequences here, and Jai Courtney is just fantastic as the villain! Didn’t hate his little underwear dance either. The ending doesn’t really land for me, don’t care much about the love story, but I quite enjoyed the first 2 acts. Solid serial killer movie with a sprinkle of shark horror.
The biggest surprise was Zephyr not having an Australian accent. She just really gave off Australian vibes I don’t know.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Alanis Morissette as God is one of the all time great movie reveals.
This movie is FUNNY! Everyone is nailing the tone, especially my personal MVP, Liza Soberano as Taffy. She has this one scene that had the entire theater in stitches, she is comedy gold! Love how this film looks, great use of color, and Kathryn Newton is just delightful.
