Abominable. Already in contention for worst film of 2023, and it’s only May. Anyone who acts like this is a worthy addition to this franchise is either a complete simp or a liar. Such an ugly, humorless, tepid excuse for horror. And people are eating it up. I’m not surprised.

Lacking any of the heart, magic, and lore of the best entries in the Godzilla franchise, also lacking the core themes that make even some of the campier films interesting. This looks and feels like prestige Hollywood, designed specifically in a lab to win Oscars and “legitimize” Godzilla for an audience who never gave a single shit about him to begin with. The forced melodrama is boring and confusing, the characters are all one dimensional, and the major story beats…
