The Scribbling Man’s review published on Letterboxd:
Kinda like the book, except not very good. It doesn't convey the same weight of loneliness, the desperate search for identity; the characters are lifeless and carry none of the depth found in the novel.
Don't get me wrong... The novel isn't a masterpiece or anything, but for all its flaws it trod some interesting themes very well. I feel like the changes made here just thwart character development and water down motives; and the interesting thing is both the novel AND the film were written by Anne Rice.
She really screwed it up.
Some redemption is brought by Tom Cruise, who carries this, frankly (Dunst also has her moments); but Pitt is wooden as the main protagonist.
Ah well.
