Carol deserved so much better. She was my final girl in spirit. My love for this film came completely out of left field. I had no expectations. Actually I had bad expectations for whatever reason. Still can’t quite pinpoint that but oh my god about 20 mins in and I was already savoring every moment. Legitimate artsy shots that aren’t too over the top, mixed with video nasty gore that is in some ways- over the top. More like video fucking bestie. This is my new favorite shit! I need it on dvd.
Don’t let the bad english dub on this fool you, and don’t be eased in by the tubi false sense of security. An absolute gore fest of the video nasty 80s but with next generation SFX. Took the Anthropophagus story we love to see and adapted it, adding some modern tastes and making it its own. Paid some necessary tributes to the OG with an early fetus feast. I’m having trouble finding Anthropophagus 2000 (1999) online so I’ll probably be chasing after all four of these films on DVD.
Although it’s silly and fun, it starts a little serious for what it ends up being. We’re in Slime City, but the real slimy chaos doesn’t kick in until the finale. By then, it’s too little too late.
There’s some charming B movie gore and effects sprinkled throughout, but the tone shift at the end is what I wish the whole movie had leaned into. I was interested at first, lost by the middle, and only reeled back in once…

I so heavily fuck with the perspective switch on the Cinderella story we all know. It's more complicated than that though, it's not quite as obvious who to "root for" this time around.
