Can you imagine the overwhelming euphoria and gratification you must feel if Tommy Lee Jones were to smile at you??

Long been a blind spot. Kushner’s script, DDL's performance, and the cast at large were always the things I knew about the film, but assumed it would be a little homework-y. I think this has to be one of Spielberg's best looking films and I was so surprised how fun and funny it was.

Removing nostalgia I think this has to be one of the best Spielberg films ever.

Jeff Bridges: 19th century style icon!

I guess there are a couple cuts of this movie. I think I must’ve watched the directors cut but not the criterion cut because this movie is Capital B Brown!  At times it hurt my eyes it was so dusty, and apparently the newest version has a more technicolor hue to it, which I can’t wait to see because I loved just about everything in this film.

Even at three hours and forty minutes…

I just knew this movie would end with a title card explaining that actually Las Vegas has been quite successful.

Vanity project for Beatty but I don’t think he pulls off this kinda tough guy. Every times he looses it the movie strains credulity.

Not with out its great moments though.

Gould was heartbreaking as bit of an oafish stooge.

Not a movie that I would say where the characters are particularly nuanced. The son in particular is saddled with some dialogue that doesn’t do him any favors.

I like Chris Sullivan. He reminds me of my self in a lot of his roles, but maybe none more than here in girl dad mode.

Interesting for one of Soderberghs experimental exercises. Camera as character is a conceit that I usually find pretty engaging

At some point or another throughout this film I found myself reflecting on all areas of my life. Past present future. I thought about people and places I haven’t thought about in years and in some cases in ways I never had before.

There were things about Julie that I found both awful and irable, but all relatable.

One of the most contemplative experiences I’ve had in a movie in a while. Made me feel really great.

★★★★ Rewatched

Rewatch. This time with my wife. She kept saying stuff like “can I look now?” and “what exactly is this nominated for?” and “your parents aren’t gonna watch this, are they?”

I realized I might have overrated it on first watch. Still great. Glad for its success. But I think my enthusiasm let me hold it over other movies i actually like more.
