A gratuitous yet incredibly compelling insight into the human psyche and the levels of humanity u hold for a person suffering through grief and the lengths they will go to either cope or fester in denial, sally Hawkins here is the star delivering a performance drenched in foreboding uncertainty and gut wrenching comion.

Directors danny and michael philippou know exactly how to drench a movie in so much bleakness and emotional weight through sound design and beautiful yet lugubrious imagery…

An interesting attempt at blending emotionally compelling characters with individual story arcs with a cat and mouse thrill ride that tends to overstay its welcome more than consistently thrill. Visually the film is shot with a great deal of skill and cohesiveness with colour saturation being intensified during daytime sequences involving the sea which is framed and contrasting well during nighttime shots utilising natural lighting to frame characters which works wonderfully.

Ridley Scott infuses isolation and atmospheric dread into a concise presentation of scares and anxiety, the cast are incredible all working off each others capabilities to build a scene and encapsulate the audience to the point where we are utterly submerged in the world and its inhabitants. The usage of practical effects aid the film’s believability and realism creating an incredible two hours of complete dread.

Overall Ridley Scott’s “ALIEN” is always a welcomed rewatch delivering everything you could need…
