Beautifully shot, relentless and brutally effective. Really horror cinema at it's purest. The sound design, soundtrack, production design as well as the editing and cinematography is just masterful and the performences are just so raw and convincing. I really like how Tobe Hooper structured everything, there are no backstories yet he took his time and knew exactly when to strike which makes every kill so damn intense and memorable. No matter how many times I see this I always feel that same sense of uneasiness I did the first time really from the get-go and the overall craft just continues to impress even more each time I come back.

Spielberg's debut is a suspense film that's extremely tense from the get-go and we already see such technical precision early on. Duel is definitely not something to sleep on, Dennis Weaver's performance is entertaining and convincing throughout as we really feel his paranoia. The only thing I didn't like was the unneeded narration but it's otherwise straight-up brilliance.

Clearly very personal for Scorsese I love the grittiness and early experimentation here. Mean Streets is always thoughtful and hard hitting. The performances from Keitel and De Niro show both of them at their best as both characters are eqaully as interesting in different ways. It's thin on plot but for me is consistently entertaining and suitably raw. Scorsese would obviously go on to make films that were bigger and more well polished and it seems like many see this film as more of a pure warm up towards better things but for me it's one of his Top 5 greatest.

Exploring themes of social class, desire, lust and obsession this south korean melodrama is a clear influence on filmakers like Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-Ho. It's always compelling, delightfully off the wall and hard to predict, as well as effectively claustrophobic with great cinematography and impressively complex performances from Lee Eun-shim and Kim Jin-kyu. Director Tilman Singer shows promise here as he's mixing so much together and the result is a film that is inventive but really doesn't come together all that well. I'd refer to it as an irable mess, I enjoyed Cuckoo throughout as it is fittingly creepy, awesomely atmospheric and is impressive technically even if it never fully took me anywhere as interesting as I'd hoped. Hunter Schafer who I wasn't familar with before gives an excellent performance and I've never not liked Dan Stevens in something so yea the end result is a horror that's above average in the end but is really worth possibly even coming back to. It's still strong in places yet I feel like it's more of a sign of better things to come from Tilman Singer when he figures out a way to better balance his always interesting ideas.

I was unfortunately really underwhelmed by the new Bong Joon Ho film, It has a cool concept and is enjoyable and I don't exactly hate it or anything. It's just that while the first half was especially engaging the conclusion was just so uninteresting. Pattinson is fun as is the ing cast for the most part and Mickey 17 has its moments but is quite one-note and feels significantly less clever then everything else Bong has made. Starts off as a seemingly straight forward revenge story as a fighter wants to avenge his brothers loss that came at the hands of a cheating boxer. The film then very soon loses the plot but in the best way possible, it's a Shaw brothers horror that I'd describe as a full-on assault to the senses. Each second just gets increasingly more bizzare, innovative, hypnotic and above all captivating. I don't even know any other way of truly describing this unique experience but I enjoyed it throughout and even feel that it could have gone on longer which should really say it all.

Based on one of Stephen King's short stories this horror comedy is the second film I've seen from Osgood Perkins after Longlegs and it was unfortunately similairy underwhelming in the end. I really do want to see his work before this as everything he's made sounds very interesting but so far I just really feel like his films have some good ideas but have just failed to completly work for me. The Monkey is exploring grief and has some well executed scenes and some pretty solid performances but it just falls flat and does nothing to make itself really standout as it's pretty one note and uneven in it's tone. I actually enjoyed it slightly more then Longlegs although Longlegs seemed like it had more going for it so is the one I'd actually watch again out of the two but yea this is a movie that's hard to dislike but it's just alright, some of it works but so much of it doesn't.

Where it didn't work for me so well was in the pay off, it has such a good build-up but just really didn't end up amounting to anything nearly as brilliant as it probably could have.

Not being familiar with Yukio Mishima proved to not be a very good thing as I'm sure I would have been much more invested if I was. I ittedly found it quite hard to follow throughout much of it's running time but it is incredibly beautiful and unique. Everything from the Phillip Glass score to the editing, colour scheme, costume design and performances were absolutely exceptional. I found my interest kind of fading at points but then really coming back at others, in all honestly at this point in time I find this to be a film with great sequences yet just not one that I loved. I will need to come back to this in a few years when I'm more prepared but it was still very much worth seeing it in cinemas as I'd never looked into it but it had been on the watchlist for years.

A pretty enjoyable slasher/rom-com overall that mostly suffers in the third act. Heart Eyes gives me no reason to ever watch any sequels but yea it's not exactly a bad quick-fix.

An enjoyable, always compelling yet imperfect film that has really strong moments and an especially exceptional ending. It's ittedly my first Sternberg/Dietrich collaboration and I clearly need to get to the rest soon.

Absolutely exceptional. Undoubtedly the most effective and most impressively well-crafted Godzilla film I've seen since Ishirō Honda's original masterpiece.

I've given over 400 films a 5/5 rating but really don't want this list to get too big so I'll just stick with 350 favourites. Like everyone here I've seen a good amount of films over the years and actually making this list was a bit of a mission but I'm pretty happy with it and hope some of you might find some recommendations and maybe give me some based on my taste. For me these are the films that have truly blown me away the most and have remained memorable. I've still got so many movies on my Watchlist and don't claim to be an expert or anything but just a lover of cinema who has just put together a list of films that are personal to me and are perfect examples of what makes this beautiful art form so incredible! Also don't take the order seriously as almost every time I re-watch something that isn't in the top 4 the placements can tend to change drastically.

  1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
  2. Rashomon
  3. Blade Runner
  4. The ion of Joan of Arc
  5. Ordet
  6. Mirror
  7. Metropolis
  8. M
  9. Persona

This is a list that I've wanted to put together for a while but just didn't get around to it. Before I was into cinema as much as I am now I was mainly into horror to the point that I would go to Blockbuster and mainly choose from the horror section with the occasional thriller's, actions or comedies thrown in. My taste has obviously changed a lot over the years but having recently caught up with so many horror classics that had been on the Watchlist for years I feel like it's finally time to share this. I still don't feel like I'm an expert of the genre or anything as their is still so much I want to see but I hope to see some of your thoughts on this list and please give me some recommendations if there are films I'm missing which seem like they would be up my alley.
Ranked from oldest to newest.
5/5, 4.5/5,4/5 and 3.5/5 films are all included. Everything here is high quality horror that I can re-watch over and over...

So with this i'm obviously just copying a list idea that so many other people have done but I found this one interesting to put together. I think it's great that so many people of all different ages are on this site, with so many unique tastes and takes on films. Anyway I'm 31 years old and have loved Film for as long as I can and probably started to really look more deeply into them and identify as a "Film Buff" or "Cinephile", however you want to put it from about 2009 but I definitely loved watching them all my life.

Try not to take the order to seriously as ranking them wasn't easy and after about the Top 15 I hardly even tried to decide who was better then who. All these Directors have unique visions and I've seen 6 or more films from each. They've all directed at least five great films that aren't ranked any less then 4.5/5 for me.
