Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

First time I've watched the whole series in the space of a calendar year :) Saw each of the other 7 in theaters(!), but the theater's showtimes for this one ended up being the hardest for me to get to and this did become my least favorite HP movie upon last watch, so I let that screening me by. Still wanted to say I saw all 8 films within somewhat close proximity to each other though, and as of…

Voices of Midway

★★½ Watched by SpeedLancer

Since it's been continuously shown at the USS Midway Museum theater since 2015, I get to log this as the short's original theatrical run! Actually surprising that wasn't already on Letterboxd. Might be because it fudges the definition of "film": as stated in the official synopsis I barely rearranged for this short's profile, it's a multimedia presentation, with a pretty eye-catching "holographic" surface upon which narrating characters appear in front of the regular silver screen. But some adapted form of…

Immaculate. Unblemished. The few choices I think I might've changed allowed for some of the moments I love most. The sum: irreversibly altered brain chemistry.

I'm not sure I'll ever watch it with subtitles, because I choose to believe that when X mentions the cartel it's canonically the "car-tel".

Graca had to wait until she could watch the movie as it was intended to be seen - with a few good friends who know every beat and still pretend they…

A Bad Moms Christmas

★★½ Watched by SpeedLancer

A movie I could 100% conceive of upon waking and release in theaters in this exact state before going to bed that same day: not a future me with hard-earned experience in screenwriting, casting, score and shot composition, editing, sound mixing, and direction, but me with only my spotty Letterboxd reviews to show for myself. But sometimes I can be funny on short notice, and sometimes this movie was too. (But my one-day version would have still been better, because…

Sing

★★½ Watched by SpeedLancer

Idk why this movie of all movies made me care, but there's one (1) gag that required the characters to be creatures. Nothing else made the characters inherently animals, and it just made all the dancing weird in a "don't want to watch this" way instead of a funny way. Came off as laziness to avoid putting thought into human expressions and dancing (not that there was a pretense of choreography).

The third act turning point was actually surprisingly visceral,…

Absolutely came together at the end. Probably would've been mesmerized throughout if I'd been able to catch more than every other word. Discovered in the last 20 minutes that I would unquestionably be rewatching this, so next time it'll be with subtitles. Memorable nonetheless.

He didn't even try not to be a Psycho smh

Was feeling a 9/10 - not that there was a flaw in sight, I just rarely give 10s on a first watch - but I still can't shake this lingering uneasiness, and the weighty black-and-white sky into which I walked out didn't help convince me that I wasn't still at the Bates Motel. So maybe the world outside going from sunny and blue to a damp grey in Psycho's (Extended…

Someone please tell me what I know "A Fifth of Beethoven" from, they played it before starting the movie and I desperately need help pinning it to something I've consumed in some way. No I have not seen Saturday Night Fever.

Oh yeah, celebrating the day with the girl I love by laughing at a comfort movie together was sublime (we both might have said that out loud to each other when the moment hit).

Dirty Dancing

1987

First new movie I'm leaving unrated in a long time just for reasons of my own. But 90% of this movie was a helluva good time and sets an example for what just about every other movie (and every other romance) should also be.

Bring back leads that can actually dance, please. The only valid reason Zendaya should be coming back immediately after No Way Home's ending is so that she and Tom get a legit musical number together 🗣🗣🗣

I'll it I didn't pay the threshold amount of attention I usually hold myself to in order to log something, but I had to get on here and give this thing at least the minimum positive rating after being changed by that acorn montage with an original song playing over it.
