Actor 4x4: Tom Cruise Pt. 4
"Interview With the Vampire"
I REALLY loved the first half of this, but once Cruise...exits for much of the film, it goes on and on to the point of tedium. I love the fresh take on vampire mythology and the often tragic tone. Cruise is brilliantly evil in one of my very favorite performances from him, and Goldenthal's beautifully gothic score delivers. It's just that the whole endeavor drags after making its main points. I get that Pitt's character was trying to find purpose and answers, and I really did enjoy the journey of him and his adopted daughter navigating this dark new world, but everything in the third act involving Banderas felt overlong and unnecessary. I'm a little split on this. 3.5/5
