Me every 10 minutes: “alright what the hell is this?” A truly insane movie. Had me crying with Julia Stiles at the end and screaming about the guitar, so it worked! Nolan clearly loves this movie—JGL, Ledger, and Krumholtz? Wild.

It’s a shame that it took this long for Michael Cera to be in the Wes universe, but man, he is here to stay. The poor critic reaction to this is so funny, like when are people going to realize this guy doesn’t miss. An incredibly performed and designed anti-capitalist, adventure-comedy. Loved it—go in blind.

“Hi. I’m Owen, a good friend of “the three”.”

New summer banger unlocked. Honestly, a hidden gem in the pantheon of coming-of-age films. It was giving Adventureland x Snack Shack vibes. Which is a very high compliment.

Another one of those films that has a bunch of “I’ll watch anything they’re in” actors like, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, & above all, Sam Rockwell (a national treasure some might say). Plus other actors that I will always be happy to see pop up…

Rewatched a few days ago on my return flight from Cannes, and I sorta forgot how casually unlikable Denzel is in this (in a good way). Reviews at the time accused the movie of liking its protagonist too much but you’d have to be kind of an idiot to think “American Gangster” likes this guy. It merely has a complex view of him as a protector, investor, manipulator, and murderer.

Asteroid City was my favorite film the year of its release and the first Anderson is I’d really liked in a decade, so this one was always going to come in disadvantaged. altogether (comparatively) slighter — I don’t really care for critiques that he is all surface level but this one did feel a touch more pavlova within the overall filmography. the little episodes are cute, but this whole thing is anchored by three wonderful performances in Del Toro, Threapleton, and…
