A year ago, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to open a DIY repertory cinema space and bar in London.
Thanks to your and encouragement, we exceeded our target and began the long and uncertain process of looking for a premises.
Today, I’m thrilled to announce that we have the keys to our very own venue - and have begun to construct a 35-seater microcinema, physical media emporium (soundtracks, posters, literature and movies to rent and buy) - and a basement bar.
The Nickel will be located in a beautiful old premises on Clerkenwell Road, just moments away from Chancery Lane, Farringdon and Holborn stations.
We have installed seats in the venue already, cunningly appropriated from an extinct multiplex, and are hoping to open in early Summer.
We have a lot of work to do - painting and decorating, building a bar, soundproofing and blocking out ambient light, deg our programme and building a proper website.
If you’d like to get involved with programming, or if you have a short or feature you’d like to screen - us via our website or Instagram. We want The Nickel to be a truly grassroots place that platforms filmmakers and film fans alike.
Thank you to everybody who ed our harebrained scheme over the past year. Getting to know this community over this past year has been genuinely wonderful. I can’t wait to welcome you to our venue and watch lots of weird movies together.
