Jungleground

1995

★★★ Watched

“Part Escape From New York (1981), part The Warriors (1979)… The plentiful scenes of brawling, blasting, and chasing as Piper and the side characters he teams with stave off wave after wave of gimmicky-looking gangbangers are impactful and exciting, despite how repetitive some of the set pieces actually are (run, hide, discovered, violence, wisecrack, run again).“

Night Visions

1990

Watched

“It’s easy to see why NBC ed on expanding NIGHT VISIONS. Despite the thematic and conceptual fingerprints, Night Visions lacks Craven’s usual pep. Directorially, it’s a pedestrian and extremely minor offering; a laboured and thoroughly beige bit of television that even the outrageous ‘maverick detective on the edge’ histrionics of James Remar can’t alleviate.”

“Fuck it, it’s a movie…”

Dead Cold

1996

★★★★ Watched

“A tightly woven knuckle-whitener… The script is the star and defined by its subtleties — a coy look here, a questioning glance there — and DEAD COLD’s ensemble deliver it irably. Mulkey’s ability should have seen him cast as a lead more often, Anthony is on fire, and Dobson comes across like a young Martin Sheen, harnessing a barely contained ferocity.”
