Wilder does it again by highlighting how turmoil is exploited by an insatiable persons gain as proper human ethics are abandoned for that perfect story just to put their name in the hat, most particular from media sensationalism. The press exploit tragedy, while we can't help but be drawn in by the misfortunes to gawk at it as if it couldn't happen to us. All that matters is that perfect story that will put a writer into the spotlight, and the fame and recognition that come with it, no matter who that hurts along the way or how much worse they make it. Charles' chase for fleeting attention with his below-the-belt journalism as the movie calls it ultimately causes more pain and trouble than was needed. Wilder seems to be king at making films that just get relevant more and more as time goes on, with media getting more lethal to grab their audiences ever-fleeting attention.
