The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

2007

★★★★½ Liked

So glad I still love this. But now I think I just find it really impressive as a work of craft more than anything. Was so influential to me when it first came out in wanting to study/pursue documentary/factual storytelling in some way.

It’s an absolute master class in applying genre and narrative to real life footage in factual filmmaking. Beautifully and brilliantly edited to create the familiar tropes of an underdog sports drama.

And still laughed so much. Really some of the funniest lines. “Donkey Kong Kills Screen” is just golden.

Honestly, still fkn keen for the dramatized comedic follow up about life after the doco.

Rocky. The Karate Kid. The King of Kong.
