Another solid entry in the saga. This one’s mostly vibing thanks to Roy Cheung's vicious villain role. The whole part in Amsterdam took me by surprise. It was clearly shot guerrilla style, as you can see all the crazy Dutch Ajax fans waving at the camera in the background. So much so that the director even gave them close-ups, which sure made me laugh.
What’s more 80s than Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling sweaty dudes? Apart from Stallone traveling to Soviet Russia to box their prime athlete—exactly, almost nothing. This remains an entertaining gem of a bygone era.
Winner takes it all, till he breaks the fall, in time he’ll make it over the top! 🎵
What a magnificent film! Next to working very well as a comedy, it’s also greatly effective in its drama, and contagiously energetic in its excitement and flow.
Hiroyuki Sanada is kinetic and jolly in the role of a newly ed yakuza getting caught up in chaos, and Ken Ogata is masterful as the ceremony’s arbitrator struggling with his inner demons.
