Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters

2022

★★ Watched

I don't really understand who this documentary is for if you're a fan of Michael Mignola and his work, it doesn't really offer any new information about him or his creations that isn't already out there, and I can't see anyone who isn't already a fan watching it in the first place. So. I'm kind of puzzled about why it was made. Defiantly not the worst documentary, but defiantly not one I'd watch again.

Pieces of April

2003

★★ Watched

Not my favourite Peter Hedges script that will always be About A Boy (2002), closely followed by What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). But it is an OK little indie film that's acted well and doesn't outstay its welcome. But good god, early films shot on digital look horrendous, especially low-budget ones. It really does look terrible.

Karate Kid: Legends

2025

★★★ Watched

Sticks to the Karate Kid formula with not too much new to offer, and the finale felt like it was over and done with a bit too quickly, and in my opinion they could have built up the rivalry more. But I did like the New Karate Kid, Li Fong (Ben Wang). I thought he was a good protagonist and in all I did enjoy myself I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel with his character.

Aftersun

½ Watched

I don't understand the hype. I didn't connect with this on any level. It felt like nothing more than a 40-minute TV dream stretched out into a feature film. You can also tell it was written and directed by a woman who doesn't understand men.
