This film was surprisingly brilliant and I could have expected no less from a film directed by Zoë Kravitz. Initially I was put off by both its backdrop and poster being an unsettling picture of smirking Channing Tatum but I am SO glad that I finally came around to watching it because this is definitely one of the best films made in 2024. A great year for female lead movies.
There is a range of mentionable aspects that are impressive and consistent until the end: soundtrack, tension building, cinematography, editing, and themes (most of all). It emits an untrustworthy atmosphere similar to Jordan Peele's Get Out to begin with, which I thought would become a flaw in its originality, but that thought quickly evaporated as it was fast to become its own film with its own distinct qualities.
On the topic of qualities, as I was approaching the halfway mark of the film I had noticed its swiftly paced editing style, which, firstly, was reflective of the title 'Blink' Twice, but was also distractive and gave us a considerably small amount of time to process the little unanswerable occurences that happen during the build up. It was bold of me to think that this wasn't an intentional decision - the reason behind it, which is clear in the revelation of the truth later on, is that clips were cut to so suddenly to depict the gaps in their memories. That was the turning point for me, and the moment I realised that this was no average directorial debut; and the second that my opinion was solidified was watching half of the male characters being beaten to death by women. (A grounding moment.)
