Good movie. Could’ve had more of one half and less of another, and there’s something about these characters I just wasn’t able to find a handhold on, but overall had a very good time

Has a lot of the same strengths and pitfalls as the last one, down to the disorienting first 2/5ths-ish that gets stronger as the move goes on. I’ve also got a bone to pick with the visual design of this thing - the weird dreamy lighting and the overuse of closeups
Oh yeah and the underwater part is the best part
Impressive craft on display. Tonally a little incredible, if difficult to swallow. There was something frustrating about this movie - maybe a lack of connection with the characters, especially after that first get together. I was waiting for a moment that would tie everything together: the wife, the friend, the motif of addiction, the gun, the drums, the dagger. Some of these elements find a resolution and others don’t need one, but as things stand all I got out of the movie was these waves of tension and complexity that never quite broke, and it left me feeling just sorta… empty?
