Langella is quite good. There's a strong Hollywood sheen over this particularly with the made-up midnight phone call. The docudrama approach feels like a lazy way to shove exposition once every fifteen minutes. It was based on a play, and Howard does little to add any visual flair to the material.

I cannot trust anyone who watches this and roots for Tom. Holly Hunter can do no wrong. Joan Cusack is the superior Cusack, by far. Love Holly Hunter in the cab everytime it plays. Hate, hate, hate the ending. It's far too neat, too tidy, too up and shut to fill ceaseless demand for closure whatever that is in this case (still a thousand times better than the god-awful alternate ending.) Cut it a minute or two earlier and it's perfect.
