A very good underdog courtroom drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The cast is strong, Matt Damon and Danny DeVito in particular are really good in this. It's also surprisingly funny, with a lot of little gags that come and go out of nowhere but don't feel distracting.
I bought this one second hand a little while ago not knowing much about it at all, and I'm really glad I did, because it turned out to be a really powerful and honest drama film about a topic that often gets sidelined in war films, that being casualty notification. It underlines the importance of empathy and humanity, and explores how little we really know about the lives of strangers. Great handheld camerawork and powerful performances from Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson.
The first time I saw this, I loved it, but it didn't really hit me emotionally until after it had ended.
This time, I found myself holding my breath and tearing up more times than I could count. What a heartbreaking, breathtaking film. Quite possibly my favorite of the decade.
And Frankie Corio's performance is still the best performance I have ever seen from a child actor.
