Until Dawn

★★★ Watched

I don't know. I kinda enjoyed it. "Until Dawn" is a film adaptation of the PlayStation survival horror game, and while I'm not familiar with the game itself, the film manages to bring some thrills with its time loop concept. The film follows a group of friends who are investigating a missing girl, only to find themselves stuck in the same nightmarish town. The Ballad of Wallis Island

2025

★★★★ Watched

"The Ballad of Wallis Island" is a lovely and heartwarming drama about relationships torn apart and the wonderful ways they can be mended. In the film, a millionaire lottery winner invites a former musical duo to a remote island for a private concert, only for former tensions to resurface. The film stars Tom Basden, Tim Key, and Carey Mulligan, who all give committed performances as people with past turmoil. This is a musical-adjacent film, and the gorgeous folk songs fit perfectly with the serene locations of Wallis Island. The comedy and tragic undertones are balanced quite well, resulting in a low-key charmer of a film.

Trigger Warning: sexual assault, multiple murders, mutilation, torture, stalking

No amount of stylish filmmaking techniques, captivating production values, and some strong performances can save this film from being such a repulsive glorification of a serial killer. Jean-Baptiste is an impoverished, puny young man with superhuman olfactory senses. The film has a very intriguing beginning, plugging the viewer into a putrid Paris environment, so stomach-turning and impressive at the same time. Director Tom Tykwer has a strong skill of pouring out…
