I love a scheme! Also, just learned that Wes Anderson’s wife is Lebanese, which kinda clicks a few things into place about him

Inconsequential. Obviously, all the AI world ending shit is meant to be very small potatoes to the characters, but even their antics are not particularly engaging. And on top of that, this film is just not funny enough to keep itself afloat in the way the way In The Loop did.
Bad songs, ugly shots, and a turning point in the film features the formation of a non-profit as a way to undo past damage to the world. Emilia Perez marks the last vestige of neo-liberal thinking by using marginalized people as 2-dimensional plot devices to make no points whatsoever! It uses trans people and mexican cartel victims to rehash the plot of Mrs. Doubtfire. Like, I do not get how anyone is moved by this film. The acclaim it's getting…
I ire Emma Stone’s dedication to having no limits in her roles, because she is really going all out in this which was cool. I also really liked so many of Willem Dafoe’s line readings. Didn’t like most of the rest. There’s a lot of performances either so over the top it’s unbearable or so stilted it leaves me with nothing. I also think this film suffers from a strange sense of self importance that it never earns. I didn’t find most of this funny, amusing, nor stimulating. Sorry 🤷
